Our Story

Owners of “Kuma” Dayami Burlesk King

The first time we contacted Suzanne regarding her new litter of puppies was via email, her response to our message asked us to give her a call for a better chat over the phone. When we rang her we were very surprised that she was so friendly compared to other breeders we had contacted regarding this breed. She made us feel as though we had known her for a while. We were very pleased and did not give the 2 hour drive to visit her and her family a second thought. We were given great directions and were even waited for at the entrance to their road for a welcome by Neil, Suzanne’s husband.
We were made to feel very welcome in their home and were immediately introduced to the big daddy of the litter, Kosumo. Kosumo is a great dog, very eager to meet and greet us. We were then taken through to the pups, which were all kept together and sleeping on top of one another as all puppies do. We were also introduced to the rest of the fur family of Akitas. They each have their own spacious kennel with beds, bowls etc. The dogs have an unbelievable temperament. They were all eager to meet and greet. We met each one out of the kennel one by one, those that could not wait to resorted to licking us through the gates! The dogs were truly tremendous and we fell in love with each one. Not one of the dogs was aggressive towards us in any way. Each dog has obviously been carefully selected for their excellent temperament and this showed in the litter. Each pup was very friendly and obviously well looked after. They were clean and lively even though having just eaten and woken up. Each one had their own great personality. They played with us as well with each other.
The pups had been bought up around the whole family and were great with the kids. After we fell in love with a pup and agreed to come back to get him the week after. We were not rushed out of the house at all. Even when we picked our pup up we were made to feel most welcome and were never “hurried along”. This made the 2 hour trip from London very worthwhile.
Our chosen pup, which we have called Kuma, has an unbelievable temperament. He loves meeting new people and loves to play with children without hurting them. He has been very easy to train and has picked up the house rules very quickly. He was housetrained within 5 days and picks up his lead and waits at the back door when he needs to “go”. He is quiet and night and this must be due to the upbringing he had at Suzanne’s home. This has made it a lot easier to raise him as we have been having a full nights sleep!
Suzanne has been extremely helpful after we took Kuma home, giving us a great info pack. She has always been willing to answer any questions we have had and is fast becoming a good friend. We are extremely impressed with her dogs and the way they are kept. We have been dog owners for a while and have not had the same level of help from any of the other breeders. Kuma is our first Akita and Suzanne has helped us greatly in understanding some of the stuff he does and has always been interested in how he is getting along. Would we recommend her to people wanting an Akita? Yes! Without a doubt. If our future allows then we will definitely be calling Suzanne for another Akita pup! Are her Akitas of sound temperament? Well let us answer you by telling that as we left her home, after our first visit, Kosumo laid down in front of us for belly rubs! Need we say more!
